A man threatened to burn his former girlfriend’s home down just two weeks after a restraining order barred him from the address.

Leeds Crown Court heard Justin James Riley was given a community order and made the subject of the restraining order on October 15 by magistrates for offences of battery and harassment on Charlotte Hutchinson and harassment of a previous partner.

Now he has been jailed.

On October 31 he turned up at Miss Hutchinson’s home in Holmfirth and asked her to come outside and talk to him so they could sort stuff out, said Michael Smith prosecuting.

When she refused he became angry and began kicking on the door and shouting abuse. When he realised she was on the phone to the police he called her an informer and a grass and “threatened to burn the house down.”

Riley was found in the area but denied he had been to his ex-girlfriend’s home and said he was just meeting a friend.

Mr Smith said Miss Hutchinson did not want anything more to do with Riley and asked for the restraining order to continue.

Chloe Hudson representing Riley said he had difficulty accepting the relationship was over claiming she had contacted him on occasions.

He had found his remand in custody very difficult and was willing to comply with any courses or orders.

Riley, 27 of Bernard Street, Deighton, Huddersfield admitted breaching the restraining order and threatening to damage property and was jailed for a total of six months.
