A man's life was saved – after he was left millimetres from death.

And now detectives are questioning a man and a woman on suspicion of attempted murder.

Last night, the 43-year-old man was recovering in hospital in Huddersfield after what police termed “an incredibly lucky escape”.

Medics managed to save his life after he was stabbed in the chest and throat at 10.30pm on Sunday.

The man, who has not been named by police, is being treated at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

He was taken to the hospital from a house in Huddersfield.

Police said the man who lives at Keldregate, Deighton, is in a “serious but stable” condition and is expected to recover from his injuries.

But a source explained how the wounding was just millimetres away from becoming a murder charge.

The source said: “If the chest wound had nicked his heart that would have been it.”

A 44-year-old woman and her 20-year-old son are being held in custody regarding the incident on suspicion of attempted murder. Both are believed to be from Huddersfield.

Last night Huddersfield detectives said charges were imminent and the duo may appear in court this morning.
