A man assaulted a woman after she walked in on him getting intimate with her sister, a court heard.

Shane Stroud, of Shepherds Grove in Deighton, appeared before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.

He had been due to stand trial for the assault but changed his plea to guilty.

Alex Bozman, prosecuting, said that the incident happened on December 6 last year. During that day Stroud had been out drinking with his girlfriend Emma Harrison, her sister Lynn Harrison and her partner.

They all returned to Stroud’s home and the 25-year-old took his girlfriend into the bedroom.

Alex Bozman, prosecuting, said: “Miss Lynn Harrison had some concerns about what was going on.

“The account that Mr Stroud gave was that she walked in on them being intimate and her hit her once.

“He accepted causing the black eye injury.”

Mr Bozman said that the victim’s account differed to the one given by Stroud but the prosecutor said that it was ‘inappropriate’ to read out her statement in court.

Mr Bozman said that following the assault police were called and Lynn Harrison attended hospital. She suffered a swollen right eye and a two-centimetre cut to her eyebrow as a result of the single blow, he said.

The court heard Stroud had a conviction from 2011 for assaulting a former partner.

Magistrates gave him a community order with a 30-day activity requirement and curfew for four weeks.

They also ordered Stroud to pay £100 compensation, £100 court costs and £60 victim surcharge.
