A COUPLE who met on holiday are celebrating their golden wedding.

Derek and Margaret Rawlinson, 74 and 75, of Beaumont Park, first set eyes on each other in Oban, northern Scotland around 1956.

Mr Rawlinson, originally from Brighouse, and Mrs Rawlinson, initially from Sowerby, married at St Peter’s Church, Sowerby, on March 28, 1959. They are pictured now and on their wedding day.

The pair have two sons and three grandchildren.

The couple celebrated 50 years of marriage at their home on March 28 with friends and relatives.

Margaret enjoys embroidery in her spare time while Derek, a retired engineer, is vice-president of the Brighouse and Rastrick Band.

Mr Rawlinson said: “Unfortunately the band can’t be with us because they’re playing at Barry Island in Wales so we’ve given them a few cans of beer to take with them!

“It’s difficult to say what’s kept us together so long. We obviously love each other and respect each other and we’ve had a happy life.”
