A HUDDERSFIELD man has been crowned king of the coach drivers.

Derek Cook, 59, who works for Station Coaches, of Huddersfield Road, Dewsbury, and Kirkdale Tours in Halifax, has also won a cheque for £1,000.

He came top in a nationwide search organised by the Tourism Partnership of Wales.

Holidaymakers and travel organisers were asked to nominate the best driver who takes trippers to North Wales resorts.

Derek, who lives with partner Patricia in Netherton, was praised for being trustworthy, efficient and a great personality.

Derek said: "It's a fantastic honour. I love Wales."

Derek has driven holidaymakers to Anglesey, Snowdonia and Llandudno for more than 26 years. He used to work for Wallace Arnold.

He is preparing to spend his 10th Christmas in Llandudno.

Station Coaches owner Dean Hawkins said: "The award couldn't have gone to a nicer man.

"Derek is so popular that holidaymakers actually ask for him by name and then book their trip when they know he is the driver."
