A RALLY took place in Halifax of striking union members.

There were picket lines outside Calderdale Council’s town centre offices and a demonstration outside Halifax Town Hall as members of the five trade unions in Calderdale took industrial action over pay and spending cuts.

The unions Unison, FBU, PCS, GMB, NUT and Unite were all involved.

Among the speakers were Gary Baker from GMB Gary Cleaver from Unison and Edward Ashman Calderdale Unison Branch Secretary.

Mr Ashman described the 1% pay offer as “derisory”.

Calderdale Council and Labour leader, Clr Tim Swift, said he was “proud to stand up for low paid public sector workers.”
