A MIRFIELD garden designer has put his green fingers to work at Redbrick Mill in Batley.

Shaun Malik has transformed part of the first floor of the shopping centre with decking, paving, sculptures, pot plants and grasses.

Shaun, of Taylor Hall Lane, who runs his own garden design firm, Shaun's Outside, was asked to carry out the work by Mark Carter, of floristry business Taffari.

The garden - which took two weeks to build - will now be a permanent feature alongside Taffari's shop at the Bradford Road retail complex.

Shaun said: "The idea is to ring the changes with the seasons of the year - so we will have features such as edible plants for salads and floral displays as well as offering advice about planting."

Mr Malik set up his business five years ago after having to give up his job as a lorry driver.

An horrendous head-on collision left him severely injured with broken bones all along the right hand side of his body.

Following an amazing recovery, he decided to turn his passion for plants and gardens into a business.

He has completed projects for clients throughout the Huddersfield area.

Shaun said: "Quite a few of my clients are business people with fantastic houses who want equally fantastic gardens.

"I hope to use the garden at Redbrick Mill for client meetings to show what kind of thing can be achieved."
