Two Huddersfield design students have seen their work modelled at a prestigious London fashion show.

Lucy Owen, 20, from Lowerhouses, and 21-year-old Praphawan Simchan, of Golcar, were among 25 finalists at the Golden Shears Tailoring Contest for young designers.

More than 300 people saw professional models show off the outfits made by the Batley School of Art and Design students. Lucy, who designed an asymmetric jacket with city shorts, said: "It was absolutely great, a really, really fantastic experience.

"I was buzzing with excitement to see my garment on a professional model."

Praphawan, who designed a double-breasted jacket with green wool shorts, also enjoyed the experience. She said: "It was brilliant being down there. It was so posh.

"When I saw my design on the catwalk, I was a little nervous, but not too much." The Golden Shears Tailoring Contest was at the Merchant Taylors' Hall in Threadneedle Street, London.
