A PLANNING application for a new special school in Heckmondwike has been submitted to Kirklees Council.

Outline permission was granted last year. Now detailed permission is being sought.

The plan is to build a single-storey school for 109 children with complex and profound needs.

The school will be built next to Leeside Junior Infant and Nursery School, White Lee Road, Heckmondwike.

It would include play areas and parking for 70 cars.

A new school is also planned for Newsome to replace schools at Highfields, Edgerton, and Turnshaws at Kirkburton.

The school will provide special education for 108 three-to 19-year- olds with severe learning difficulties.

That will be constructed on land next to Newsome Road South and Plantation Drive - at the bottom of playing fields used by Newsome High School and Sports College.

And a new-look special school will be built in Longley to replace existing classrooms at Longley Special School.
