Detectives appeal to anyone who saw gun victim's final moments
DETECTIVES today renewed their plea for help in finding a young man's killer.
Officers say they desperately need to speak to people who could have seen the final moments of Michael Hanley's life at a Ravensthorpe club.
They have given out a mobile phone text number in the hope that youngsters who have vital information will get in touch.
Mr Hanley, 23, of Harehills, Leeds, was gunned down outside Sheridan's Bar at 5am on Tuesday.
Police believe he was targeted by the brutal killer simply because he had jostled the man in the club.
Mr Hanley was shot in the stomach as he tried to flee, after he and a friend - who had both been to a party in Huddersfield - left the club. Mr Hanley was shot as he tried to flee, police say.
His friend, also 23 and from Leeds, escaped with a minor head injury after managing to get to a car outside the club and drive off to Huddersfield.
The gunman was described as mixed race or light-skinned Afro- Caribbean, thought to be in his late teens or his 20s.
He had short dark hair and was possibly wearing a dark hooded jacket and dark trousers.
The killer is thought to have escaped in a silver VW Golf, police say.
The car has not yet been traced.
Det Supt Phil Sedgwick, who is leading the murder inquiry, said the club had been packed on the night.
He said it was vital that anyone who had been in Sheridan's Bar came forward to help police.
"We believe this was a chance confrontation that resulted in Michael's murder and that he was an innocent victim in this."
