PLANS are under way to develop part of Elland town centre.

Tom Chambers Ltd is seeking planning consent to demolish buildings and redevelop land at 18 to 20 Westgate for business use.

A planning application shows the company wants approval for the conversion and extension of an existing building to create 658sq metres and a new office building providing 990sq metres of space.

There will be provision for 42 parking spaces in the redevelopment.

A report, submitted with the planning application, says: “The existing buildings on the site have been vacant for some years.

“Previous planning applications for alternative forms of redevelopment have not been successful.

“The basis of this application is to replace the modern buildings on the site with new buildings that reflect the local character of the conservation area.”

The plans would retain London House as it is.

Calderdale Council will decide the application.
