Plans to convert Cellars Clough Mill in Marsden have been withdrawn by the developer.

Last January Richmond Plc submitted a planning application for Cellars Clough, a collection of three mills which runs alongside Huddersfield Narrow Canal.

At the time they admitted Marsden residents would be “sceptical” about the application but say they want to make converting the mill a reality.

However, the company has now withdrawn the plans from Kirklees Council’s consideration.

The letter from Richmond Plc did not state a reason why it had been withdrawn.

Last year a Kirklees planning officer asked the developer to clarify several aspects of the proposal.

Among concerns raised were plans for 20 commercial units that were not put out for public consultation; a justification for building on new parts of the greenbelt; a lack of landscaping proposal; lack of ecology report and highway issues, among other issues.

The planning application had sought consent to make alterations to the existing vacant mills and build an extension to form 133 apartments, with parking for 190 cars.
