TWO men were hurt in an alleged hit and run incident in Dewsbury.

One suffered a broken leg when he was struck by a vehicle on Monday evening.

A second man was less seriously hurt.

Police have launched an inquiry.

A spokesman said: “At about 6.45pm on Monday, police were called to Cemetery Road in Dewsbury after ambulance crews found a man with a leg injury.

“The 38-year-old man, who had suffered a broken leg, claimed he had been struck by a vehicle which had then driven off.

“A second man, aged 41, also claimed to have been struck by the vehicle but did not suffer serious injuries.

“Following enquiries, police arrested a 39-year-old man from Dewsbury on suspicion of assault.

“He remains in custody and enquiries are continuing”.
