A Dewsbury taxi driver was slashed in the hand during a knife robbery.

The attack happened last night as the 44-year-old taxi driver picked up a passenger in Dewsbury for a fare to Cleckheaton.

As the taxi arrived at what is thought to be the destination, the passenger demanded cash.

The suspect produced a knife and as the taxi driver put up his hand to protect himself he suffered a small cut to his hand.

But the suspect fled empty handed and dropped his mobile phone and the knife.

He was arrested in the early hours of this morning and is currently in custody.

Det Insp Mark Walker said: “We are investigating an incident in Whitcliffe Road, Cleckheaton. A 44-year-old taxi driver was assaulted and suffered a small cut to his hand.

“A 20-year-old man has been arrested and enquires are ongoing.”
