DISGRUNTLED passengers are calling for action to improve bus services in Paddock, Longwood and Quarmby.

They say that since First buses took over the route in August the service has been ‘diabolical’. They have also made a list of complaints.

A petition signed by more than 50 passengers accuses the operator and its drivers for missed buses, discourteous drivers and scornful attitudes.

One passenger said of the 356 and 357 services: “We have never had a day without buses missing and various incidents on those that have run.’’

Fair Rider ran the service until the summer, when it had its licence withdrawn for several routes for several reasons, including concerns about safety and maintenance of vehicles.

Complaints about the First service include:

Buses going past bus stops

Telling people they have not rung the bell and not stopping

A 90-year-old woman who went past her stop being told to stay on and go round again

A woman aged 75 having to walk half-a-mile with heavy bags after being taken past her stop

Drivers setting off before passengers have got off.

First bus said they were investigating the complaints.
