THE ORGANIST at Meltham Methodist Church and his wife have celebrated their diamond wedding.
Arnold and Blanche Lee, both 82, of Mill Moor Road met in the Army during the Second World War, while they were stationed at Field Lane barracks in Batley.
He was a sergeant in the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers and she was a sergeant in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. Later, she was a clerk at David Brown Tractors. The couple married at St Nicholas's Church, in Mrs Lee's home town of Withernsea, east Yorkshire.
During the war Mr Lee served in Italy, Egypt and Palestine.
He then worked for G R Stein Refractories, of Meltham, which made bricks for furnaces.
After living in south Wales and Nottinghamshire for 23 years, the
couple returned to Meltham in 1981. They have one daughter and two grandchildren.
The couple celebrated with a party and Lake District holiday.
