Huddersfield company Direct Golf raised more than £4,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The three fundraisers for the company were owner John Andrew, Tom Calvert, 22, a sales advisor at the company’s Stadium store in Huddersfield, and Grahame Page, 59, the director of Second Hand Golf Clubs, with all three among the 37,675 who crossed the finish line in the Mall.

It was Andrew’s second London Marathon and he made it home in 3 hours 42 minutes to finish 8,701st – in the top 25% of finishers. Tom’s time was 4 hours and 34 minutes while Grahame recorded a time of 5 hours and 3 minutes (29,355).

In addition to their sponsorship money, the funds were supplemented by the company’s ‘Round to a Pound’ campaign, which encouraged customers to increase their spend to the nearest pound, in any of the company’s 21 stores or via the award-winning website, with the difference being added to the Cancer Research donation.

Andrew said: “It’s a really inspiring and humbling race and is, I believe, the largest fundraiser in the world, which tells you an awful lot about the people who participate.”
