There is a potential re-jig among Kirklees Council director responsibility.

Councillors this week debated the ‘Recruitment of Director for Commissioning, Public Health and Adult Social Care’.

However, it was discussed in a private meeting and the council is unwilling to answer questions on the role.

A spokesman for Kirklees Council said: “The report was dealt with in the closed part of the meeting as it was a discussion on how to make best use of director capacity anticipating known retirements.”

The brief description of the agenda states councillors were to consider “a report seeking approval for the process and timescale for the recruitment of the Director for Commissioning, Public Health and Adult Social Care”.

Kirklees chief executive Adrian Lythgo leads the current management team with a Directorate for Children and Adults headed up by Alison O’Sullivan; a Directorate of Place run by Jacqui Gedman; a Directorate of Resources run by David Smith; a Directorate for Communities, Transformation and Change run by Ruth Redfern and a Directorate of Public Health managed by Dr Judith Hooper - the latter was incorporated into council functions 12 months ago.

The proposed new directorate sees responsibility for two current directorates merged into one directorate - adult services and public health.

However, there would still need to be someone overseeing children’s services, which includes child protection. No indication has been given where that responsibility will lay in any future set-up.
