A disabled driver has called for clarity over parking laws after he received incorrect advice from a traffic warden.
Flockton resident Stephen Eastlake asked a parking warden if he could use his blue badge on double yellow lines at Princess Street, adjacent to Wilkinsons.
The road has so called “kerb blip” yellow markings, which ban any loading or use by disabled motorists.
But Mr Eastlake, 66, was surprised when the warden said he could park there.
Kirklees Council confirmed the warden was mistaken.
Mr Eastlake said: “The booklet for disabled drivers says you are allowed to park on double yellow lines but not where there are lines on the kerb.
“But a traffic warden told me it was okay so I checked with the council’s highways department who phoned me back and confirmed it was okay to park there for three hours with a blue badge at any time of day.”
A Kirklees Council spokeswoman said they had got it wrong.
She said: “It is true that the guidelines say you can’t park on roads where double yellow lines are marked on the kerb, which is the case on a section of Princess Street.
“Blue badge holders can park on double yellow lines, however, where there is a kerb blip (loading ban), no-one, including blue badge holders, should be parking on these.
“Motorists need to check signs and lines at all times and shouldn’t take the risk if in doubt.”
She added: “Blue badge holders can now park for free in Market Hall multi-storey car park.”
Mr Eastlake said: “There should be some signs up explaining the kerb lines, it’s just confusing.
“I wouldn’t like to see any disabled drivers given tickets.”
