A diving team is searching a Rishworth reservoir after a car entered the water.
Booth Wood reservoir is being searched after police received reports a red car had left Oldham Road and gone in.
The driver, who was the car’s sole occupant, is thought to be a local man in his thirties.
Police said his family had been informed of the incident.
Officers were called to the scene near the Turnpike Inn on Sunday evening at 8.20pm following reports a car had gone into the reservoir, which sits between Oldham Road and the M62.
The driver had been travelling westbound towards Rishworth before it left the carriageway.
The stretch of road remained closed on Monday morning as teams conducted their search for the man.
Sergeant Aaron Gudgeon of the Safer Roads and Neighbourhoods Support Team West said: “The road remains closed to allow specialist teams to conduct their enquiries and to recover the vehicle and we thank the public for their understanding and cooperation.
“I would appeal to anyone who was travelling in and around Rishworth on Sunday evening and who may have any information about the incident to come forward to police via 101.
“Enquires are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of what took place.”
