DOG owners will have the chance to show off their pets – and help a good cause.

The British Waterways event at Standedge is in aid of Britain’s pet charity, Blue Cross.

K9 On Canals takes place at the Lily Turner picnic area on June 1.

Dogs with the waggiest tails, the most appealing eyes or most like their owners are among those being invited to take part in Standedge’s first dog show.

There are 10 categories in the show, including cutest puppy and best trick, at just £1 per class.

Blue Cross education experts will also be on hand to give advice to pet owners, and will be giving talks during the day in the visitor centre.

For those who don’t own dogs but still want to join in, there will be an opportunity to raise funds for The Blue Cross by doing a 1,3 or 7-mile walk along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.

The money raised will go towards the rebuilding of the animal adoption centre, which will replace its dated kennels and isolation areas with new buildings and modern facilities.
