A MAN was found slumped in a street after a late night stab attack.

The 23-year-old had managed to phone for an ambulance after he was injured in the attack on a Huddersfield housing estate in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Paramedics found him sitting slumped next to a gate post on Ashenhurst Avenue at 12.25am and as soon as they realised he had suffered a stab wound they alerted police.

The scene was immediately sealed off to preserve any evidence and remained so well into the day yesterday.

Detectives also made house to house inquiries to find out if anyone had seen anything.

At this stage it is not known how many people were involved in the incident or if it was a lone knifeman.

Det Insp Andy Leonard, from Kirklees CID, said: “The victim has suffered a single puncture wound to his back. He was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary where he is in a comfortable condition.

“We are now carrying out inquiries and need to speak to anyone who saw what happened or anything suspicious in the area at around midnight on Saturday or in the first few minutes of yesterday morning.”

No arrests have been made so far and detectives were due to interview the victim in hospital yesterday.
