A SCHOOL has hit gold by winning two top awards.

Pupils and staff at Wooldale Junior School are celebrating after being named as a Healthy School and winning the sought-after Artsmark Gold Award.

Headteacher Sue Horsley said: “We are very, very proud of these two awards. It is something we will now keep working on, to achieve even more.”

Mrs Horsley added: “To get both awards we had to prove we were a school working together.

“It is something everyone was involved in, particularly the school council.”

To mark their achievements pupils gathered with staff to plant an apple tree at the school’s allotment.

To achieve the Artsmark the school, in Royds Avenue, New Mill, had to achieve high standards in art, drama, dance and music.

For the other award it had to prove it was a healthy school, not only by having pupils eating good foods but by educating them about a healthy lifestyle.
