AN inquest has opened into the deaths of a Huddersfield couple killed in an horrific crash hours after their wedding.

Zoe and Paul Williams were pronounced dead at the scene of the motorway accident.

The Ford Fiesta they were in crashed and burst into flames on an M1 slip road at Lofthouse, near Wakefield, early on Saturday morning.

The Newsome couple had been married at Huddersfield Register Officer just the previous afternoon.

Coroner's officer Richard Musgrove told the Leeds inquest yesterday that the couple had been celebrating their wedding.

They later went out in the car with two friends.

Emergency services were called to a car fire on a southbound slip road at the junction of the M1 and M62 at 3.30am.

Three of the male passengers had been thrown clear of the vehicle, but Mr Williams had died of multiple injuries.

Mrs Williams was also pronounced dead after becoming trapped and dying in the fire.

Mr Musgrove said she had to be identified through her dental records.

A provisional cause of death was given as skull fractures and multiple injuries.

The two other occupants of the car, both from Huddersfield, were injured. One is still in hospital.

West Yorkshire Coroner David Hinchliffe adjourned the inquest to allow further inquiries by West Yorkshire Police's Motorway Unit.

He also indicated that the full inquest into both deaths will be dealt with at the same hearing.
