A FIERY character from long, long ago will be returning to Castle Hill over the summer.

The dragon that is mentioned in the myths and legends surrounding the ancient hill will be gradually reappearing at children's activities being held there during the school holidays.

The activities, introduced following the appointment of Castle Hill Ranger Julian Brown, will run from 2pm to 4pm for six consecutive Tuesdays, starting on July 26.

Each week, children will add "scales" to a wire frame to make a monster from the past.

As well as creating the dragon, youngsters will also help to build a model of Castle Hill.

And each week there will be different crafts and games that will teach children about the environment and the history and legends of the hill.

The activities are free, but places must be booked in advance by phoning the Tolson Museum at Moldgreen on 01484 223830.

The activities are suitable for children aged seven and over, but not for large groups or play- schemes.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.
