YOUNG people with special needs took to the dance floor as part of a week of activities in Almondbury.

The Dare to be Different event, organised by Hot Potato productions, ran at the Quarry Hill Centre all week for people aged 14-24 with disabilities.

It gave them the chance to get involved in a variety of drama, craft and arts activities.

Organiser Rebecca Milner said: “It’s a great way of bringing everyone together so that they can try new activities, make new friends and experience dancing and drama.

“It’s a different way for them to express themselves creatively.”

One of this week’s activities was to learn the dance routine to the musical Hairspray and perform it.

Rebecca formed Hot Potato Productions in a bid to introduce drama to more young people.

The sessions were funded thanks to a grant from the Kirklees Young People’s Service and Rebecca hopes to run more sessions during other school holidays.
