A MOTORIST sparked an emergency alert after she was taken ill on the M62.

The woman steered her car towards the hard shoulder after she became poorly while driving on the motorway at 8.50am yesterday.

The drama happened on the westbound carriageway, just below the bridge up to Scapegoat Hill, close to junction 23 at Outlane.

The small black hatchback came to a rest partially on the hard shoulder and lane one but was luckily not hit by any other vehicles.

Paramedics treated her at the scene before she was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Police closed lanes one and two during the incident.

Her illness is not said to be life-threatening.
