MICHAEL LAWRENCE has made a dream come true by signing a Super League contract with his hometown club.

Since the age of five when he first started playing rugby league for Newsome Panthers, the 17-year-old, left, has wanted to be a professional Huddersfield player.

And now that dream has become a reality.

The utility back knows this is where the hard work really begins.

But he is also well aware this is his big chance to make a career out of the game he loves – and he’s determined to make the most of it.

“All I have ever wanted to do is play for the Giants at the highest level,’’ said Lawrence, who is studying for a BTec National Diploma in Sports Science at Huddersfield New College.

“I’ve loved playing for the Panthers since the age of five, and I’ve been a big fan of the Giants since I was about 12.

“So it doesn’t get much better than signing a Super League contract for the club.

“I’m over the moon.

“I’m proud of what I’ve already achieved. Being picked for the England Schoolboys squad the other year and then playing for Yorkshire Academy in this season’s Origin Series are right up there.

“But there’s obviously nothing to beat this.

“I know it’s going to be hard adapting to life as a full-time player. I’ve spent a few days already working with the squad, and it’s tough and very intense.

“But it’s also highly enjoyable, and I really can’t wait to get cracking!’’
