A MAN has been handed a 12-month ban for drink-driving.

Barry Thomas, 62, of Bramstone Gardens, Brighouse, was stopped by police driving his red Vauxhall Zafira in Hunsworth Lane, Cleckheaton, on June 9.

Kirklees magistrates sitting in Huddersfield heard yesterday how a breath test revealed Thomas was over the legal limit with 51 microgrammes (mg) of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mg.

Magistrates gave credit for Thomas’ early guilty plea and ordered a 12-month driving disqualification.

But the court heard he could reduce the ban to eight months if he successfully took part in a driving rehabilitation course by a given date.

Thomas must pay a £110 fine, £85 costs and £25 victim surcharge.
