If you’re caught with an open can of beer within any of these areas, you could be hit with a £100 fine.

These maps showing the extent of proposed street drinking exclusion zones have been revealed.

Following a stream of complaints about alcohol-fuelled antisocial behaviour on the Ale Trail, Kirklees Council is considering a ban on street drinking in the affected villages.

Kirklees Council is asking the public for their opinions on Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) which it hopes will reduce antisocial behaviour.

And the orders may be used to ban street drinking in Slaithwaite and Marsden villages, which have been blighted with nuisance weekend drinkers since the Ale Trail exploded in popularity six years ago.

As shown on the maps, the proposed booze exclusion zones include the centres of Slaithwaite and Marsden including the roads from the stations to the villages.

Anyone caught with an open alcohol container can be issued by police or authorised council officials with a spot fine of up to £100.

Kirklees Council enforcement officer, Tina Shaw, said: “We’ve been asked to introduce these orders because of the complaints we’ve received about people coming in enjoying themselves but unfortunately spoiling it for other people because they’re urinating and behaving in antisocial manners.

“We have to keep it under control by introducing these orders.

“If people are found to be in breach of these orders they will be served with fixed penalties, thereby making them behave in the future, we hope.”

Huddersfield town centre and the Folly Hall corridor currently have alcohol exclusion zones, as does Dewsbury town centre and along Bradford Road, in Batley.

PSPOs, if approved, will also be used to restrict access to footpaths and byways used for antisocial behaviour.

For example, the order could be applied to streets off Alder Street, Hillhouse. The council has received complaints from residents about prostitutes operating in the area.

They would also be used in public parks, playing fields allotments, cemeteries and other outdoor public spaces to reduce dog fouling.

Owners walking their dogs will be expected to carry poo bags – or other materials for removing dog waste – or face a spot fine.
