A MAN suffered serious head injuries when his car ploughed into a parked vehicle.

The driver, who is in his early 20s, was trapped in the wreckage of his Ford Fiesta after it hit a parked Rover on Clifton Common, near Brighouse, at midnight last night.

The force of the impact pushed the Rover about 40 yards across the road and into a wall.

Both vehicles were badly damaged and firefighters had to cut off the Fiesta's door to free the driver.

Sub-officer Wayne Fawcett, of Brighouse fire station, said: "The man had a serious head injury and was losing a lot of blood.

"He was stabilised in the car by paramedics before a neck brace was put on him.

"He was then lifted out on a spineboard stretcher."

The driver was taken to Dewsbury District Hospital. His condition was unknown today.
