A GANG tried to carjack a motorist who had stopped at a red light at a town centre roundabout last night.
A black Vauxhall Corsa with at least three men in stopped at a red light on Shore Head roundabout at 11.10pm.
As they tried to move off the car stalled, and three men came up to the car on foot.
One pulled open the driver's door, leaned in and threatened the occupants before raining a number of blows down on the face and head of the 21-year-old driver.
The man then demanded all the occupants get out of the car and give it to him.
The robber tried to pull the terrified driver from the car- but he was wearing his seatbelt.
As the robber was attacking the driver the car, which was not on handbrake, rolled and enabled the driver to close the door and drive off.
The main attacker was a white man, about 6ft tall and aged between 18 and 21.
He was described as having an athletic build with a goatee or some facial hair and with mousy brown hair that had a wet look.
He was wearing a long-sleeved jumper with three horizontal stripes and a pair of dark trousers.
A second member of the gang is another white male, between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 8ins and aged between 16 and 18.
He had a pale complexion and wore a light coloured top.
