A BUS careered into a parked car after its driver was knocked unconscious by a conker.

The 62-year-old was taken to hospital after being struck by the conker, which was hurled through an open window of the single-decker on Tuesday evening.

Worried passengers called an ambulance after the bus crashed at low speed into a Ford Mondeo in Sowerby, near Halifax.

Police are now hunting a group of children seen throwing the conker.

A spokeswoman for bus company First said a trained nurse, who was on the bus, went to the driver's rescue.

"This was a serious incident. It could have been a lot more serious if the nurse had not been on hand to help him.

"He was taken to casualty suffering from concussion. He's still in shock."
