A DRIVER was left badly hurt after a motorway smash.
The 22-year-old man and woman were in a Fiat Cinquecento that was in an accident with a breakdown recovery truck close to Junction 25 at Brighouse on the westbound carriageway of the M62 at 5pm yesterday.
Both were trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed by firefighters who attended from Brighouse, Elland, Huddersfield and Cleckheaton.
They were cut free by 5.35pm and flown to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance.
The driver remains seriously ill and the woman is in a more stable condition.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "All carriageways in both directions were closed for 45 minutes in the immediate aftermath of the accident, which caused long tailbacks.
"Two lanes on the westbound carriageway remained shut until 9pm last night."
