DRIVERS are continuing to make it a good summer for thieves.

Police say people are still leaving valuable items on show in their cars - and criminals cannot resist the temptation to break in and steal them.

In recent days, the haul from cars in Huddersfield included an Armani watch, a £1,000 laptop computer, a leather jacket containing cash, and a Gucci handbag.

Pc Dave McSweeney, of Huddersfield police, said people were simply not heeding repeated warnings about leaving easy pickings for thieves.

"It takes just seconds for a thief to break into a car and steal an item," he said.

"Yet it takes just seconds for the victim to hide the item in the boot or, better still, take it out of the car with them.

"They only seem to learn when they have fallen victim to crime."
