DRIVERS in Huddersfield have been asked to avoid a junction while repair work is carried out.

Yorkshire Water will start work on sewage pipes next to the River Colne on Monday.

Temporary traffic lights will be installed at the junction of Queen’s Mill Road, Whitehead Lane and Damside Road, Newsome.

The works will also mean that some roadside parking will also be suspended until the work finishes in September.

Project manager Dave Hargill said: “We appreciate that no-one likes queuing at traffic lights, so we’d advise motorists to look for alternative routes if possible.

“We’ve worked with Kirklees Council and timed the work to coincide with the school holidays, when there is generally less traffic.

“But some disruption is inevitable and we would like to apologise in advance.”

The work is intended to help improve water quality in the Colne.
