KIRKLEES Council has been asked to withdraw plans to build a house on council land at Cowcliffe.

The council's Planning Sub-Committee is asking the estates department to withdraw plans to build on a small patch of land on Cowcliffe Hill Road.

Council officers had recommended the plan for approval.

Planning officer Dave Hardwick said: "Members were not in favour of the plans.

"When there is a council application, the normal process is that the service that submitted it is asked to withdraw the application.

"Members felt the site was not really large enough to accommodate a dwelling."

There were also concerns over whether access to the property would be safe.

The 242-square metre site is between two houses and is bordered by allotments.

Forty-six people objected to the plans, fearing it would affect nearby Brayside Allotments.

Eleven residents thought the highways arrangements would be unsafe and others complained it would lead to loss of privacy.
