DRUGS police raided seven homes across Huddersfield this morning.

More than 40 officers searched properties in Dalton, Rawthorpe, Crosland Moor and Sheepridge in raids shortly before 9am.

The raids were part of Operation Ebonite. The operation has been going on for three weeks and before this morning 10 people had been arrested for various offences.

Five people were arrested and drugs were seized today .

Det Insp Andy Parr said the operation was a result of information from the public.

He added: "We value the information the public gives us and act upon it.

"We are serious about tackling drugs in our community and this operation shows we mean business."

Today's phase of Operation Ebonite started at Huddersfield police station with a briefing at 8am.

Sgt Anil Shukla told specialist entry, dog and drugs teams that today's operation was a vital part of tackling the drugs menace in the area.

He told waiting police of the addresses to be raided.

These were at Crossfields and Walton Croft in Dalton; Walpole Road, Crosland Moor; Brownroyd Avenue at Rawthorpe; Sherwood Avenue, Bradley; and Scott Vale and Trafalgar Close in Sheepridge.

Police using hydraulic tools smashed doors open before getting into some of the properties.

As a result of this morning's raids five people have been arrested so far.

A large amount of Class A drugs has also been recovered.
