A drunk man was arrested following his unsuccessful attempts to enter Huddersfield Bus Station.

Richard Bates, of Wellington Street in Lindley, admitted drunk and disorderly behaviour on December 8.

He appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court in custody yesterday after failing to show up for his original court date.

James Weekes, prosecuting, said that police were called to the station in Upperhead Row.

He told magistrates: “They received a radio call that there was a man at the bus station who seemed to be kicking at the door, trying to get in.

“They saw Mr Bates who was still tugging at the door.”

Magistrates heard that the 26-year-old was clearly drunk as he had very large pupils and was slurring his words.

Mr Weekes said that Bates swore and waved his arms around.

He swung out at one of the officers, but stopped his arm inches away from his face. Mr Weekes said: “He kicked out and seemed as if he was going to bite the officer.

“As he was put into the police van he shouted: ‘I’m going to kick you’.”

Magistrates heard that Bates was held at the police station until he was sober enough to be dealt with.

Bates claimed that he missed his original court hearing because his pregnant girlfriend was having a scan.

The weaver was fined £155 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £20 victim surcharge.
