A man's late-night drunken row with his partner cost him almost £1,000.

Christopher Evans, 40, had a bust up with Janet Mayor outside her Marsh home.

Kirklees magistrates were told how the couple arrived at Ms Mayor’s home in New Hey Road at around 2am.

Ms Vanessa Schofield, prosecuting, said Evans became aggressive and kicked out at his partner’s Vauxhall Corsa.

She went inside and he followed, damaging the door.

Inside she tried to ring police so he ripped the phone out of the wall.

Evans, of Broc-o-Bank, Norton, Doncaster, admitted two offences of criminal damage on May 22.

He caused £250 damage to the car and £530 damage to the door and telephone.

He was fined £90 with £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

There was no award for compensation as Evans had already paid for all the damage.

Mrs Tracey Roberts, for Evans, said the argument arose because Evans accused his partner of flirting with someone else.

He became upset because he wanted his car keys from inside the house so he could sleep in his car.

Mrs Roberts said: “Alcohol was involved. He was tired, upset and confused and lost his temper.”

A charge of assault was discontinued and Evans was awarded legal costs from central funds.
