The Duke of York will be in Huddersfield next week.

The Royal visitor will again be at the University of Huddersfield to lay the foundation stone for the planned new building on the Shorehead corner of the Queensgate campus.

The visit will take place next Wednesday, March 25, and the Duke will also present a number of young people, comprising current students and recent graduates, with an award marking the success of their respective start-up businesses.

The businesses, created and pioneered by the young entrepreneurs, were chosen to represent each of the ten universities in Yorkshire. Each business will receive The Duke of York Young Entrepreneur Award.

The presentation of awards will take place at the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre at the University of Huddersfield, where The Duke is Patron.

It is a return visit by the Duke who presented awards to University winners last May.

On the same day, the Duke will also officially open Yorkshire Air Ambulance’s state-of-the-art Air Support Base at Nostell, near Wakefield.

The Duke, a former Naval helicopter pilot and instructor, is Royal Patron of the rapid response emergency charity and will be in West Yorkshire on Wednesday, March 25..

Three years ago he opened the Yorkshire Air Ambulance’s (YAA) northern base at RAF Topcliffe.

The purpose-developed Air Support Unit in the grounds of the Nostell Estate opened in November 2013. The YAA relocated from its previous base at Leeds Bradford International Airport to improve coverage and response times to patients in the West and South of the county.

Peter Sunderland, of Huddersfield, who is YAA Chairman said: “We are absolutely delighted that our Royal Patron, HRH The Duke of York, has agreed to open Nostell Air Support Unit”.
