Two men slid down the roof of a Huddersfield building in a bid to escape police.

The pair were spotted clambering over the roofs of buildings in Southgate as police officers cordoned off streets.

It is thought they had been on the roof as a prank.

The drama on Tuesday evening was captured by a passer-by on her mobile phone.

The footage shows one of the men sliding at speed down the steep roof, coming to rest on the edge. The second man made his way to the gutter a little slower.

She said; “I saw police cars and vans in Lord Street and on Southgate, and there were a lot of police officers running about.

“When I looked up I saw the two on the roof. Both had their jumpers pulled up over their faces and were sliding down the roof. I thought they were going to fall”

Police said the pair were spoken to after the incident.
