A landmark pub is set to close on Sunday for three weeks while it undergoes a major transformation.

The Dusty Miller, on Gilead Road, Longwood, is having a £120,000 cash injection pumped into it by the leaseholders Milltown Brewing Co. and owners Punch Taverns.

Managing director of Milltown Brewing Co. Neil Moorhouse, a former butcher, who has been running the pub since April, said: “There will be new toilets, new carpets and furniture – all decorated in a traditional style.

“This is the first pub Milltown have taken on and considering its reputation for its cask ale.

“We will be looking to add an additional two handpulls and include guest ales from Milltown as well as other regional brewers.

“The plans look fantastic; we will be offering the community entertainment and a range of cask ales in a welcoming environment. I look forward to seeing the end result.”

Punch Taverns’ partnership development manager, Matthew Dutton, added: “We essentially want to reposition the Dusty Miller as one of Huddersfield’s leading pubsŠthat will be synonymous with quality, real ale.”
