STUDENTS have organised a last-minute concert to help victims of the Japanese earthquake.

The event will be held at 7.30pm tomorrow at Huddersfield Parish Church, Byram Street.

Admission is free. However, those attending will be asked to make a donation to the Red Cross earthquake appeal.

The concert will feature the New Northern Philharmonic Orchestra, who will be joined by musicians from the Huddersfield Philharmonic, and a massed choir of Huddersfield University students.

Organiser and music student Alex Kyle said: “We only started organising the concert on Tuesday. It is in response to the terrifying continuous barrage of news of new disasters in Japan.

“There are several Japanese students in Huddersfield whose families have been affected.

“We felt that this was a good opportunity for University students to use their talents to contribute to people’s lives in a positive way.”
