AN ‘eco-house’ could be build on the site of a former pub.

The Airborne public house car park in Sowood would be the site of a house with solar panels surrounded by areas of grass on the roof, if the plan is backed by Calderdale Council.

It would be built with energy efficient materials.

The applicant, Stephen McManus, has the backing of Calder Valley MP Craig Whittaker, who believes the environmentally-friendly house would enhance the look of the run-down car park.

The application for the property at Green Lane will be considered by Calderdale planners. Green belt surrounds the piece of land, which itself is classed as brownfield. The former pub was open from 1969 until 2009.

Members of the public can comment on the plans on the council’s website or at Northgate House, Halifax.
