The Eden Project is the UK's best-loved modern building, according to a new survey. The visitor attraction, whose two giant biomes dominate an old china clay pit near St Austell, Cornwall, was the clear winner out of a shortlist of 20 landmark structures. Eden attracted 40% of votes, ahead of the distinctive Gherkin building in London and the McLaren Technology Centre in Surrey, which came second and third. The survey was carried out by YouGov for ConstructionSkills.
Tim Smit, Eden Project chief executive, said: "Eden was built for the nation so we're tickled pink that it has found a place in the heart of the great British public."
