Cocaine worth £13,000 was found stashed inside an Edgerton man’s drawer.

Now Ian Clark faces a crown court judge after admitting possession of the Class A drug with intent to supply it.

Clark, of Regent Road, appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court in custody.

The court heard that police found the drugs at the 43-year-old’s home on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Alex Bozman told the court: “A total of 225 grams of cocaine - worth £13,000- was found in his drawer.

“Mr Clark enters his plea on a basis not accepted by the prosecution that he was looking after it for someone.”

The court was told that Clark had a previous conviction for possession of cannabis with intent to supply it on his record.

Mr Bozman told magistrates that, regardless of Clark’s basis of plea, the case still fell outside their sentencing powers.

Bob Carr, for Clark, did not make a bail application on his behalf.

He added that a crown court judge would determine whether to proceed immediately to sentencing or hold a Newton hearing to determine the true facts of the case.

Magistrates committed Clark for sentencing to Leeds Crown Court on October 28.

They remanded him in custody and he will appear at the court via a live television link.
