A man has appeared in court after indecent images and movies of children were allegedly discovered at his Mirfield home.

Edward Wetherill, of Farrar Avenue, was before Kirklees Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The alleged offences occurred on or before December 5 last year.

The 47-year-old is accused of making 13 indecent videos and one photo classed as category A.

These are the most serious images and typically involve sexual activity with an animal or sadism.

Wetherill also allegedly had 18 videos and four category B photos.

He is further accused of possessing 17 movies and eight photos classed as category C.

Prosecutor Bill Astin said that the footage found showed some very young children being seriously sexually abused.

Wetherill gave no indication of plea to the charges.

District Judge Michael Fanning sent his case to Leeds Crown Court.

He will first appear there on June 30 and unconditional bail was granted.
