Eight people have been involved in a “serious” car crash.

Several had to be cut out of two cars which collided with each other on St John’s Road, Birkby, with the junction of Blacker Road at 7.30pm last night.

Two women were rushed to Leeds General Infirmary by ambulance crews with multiple injuries, while another three people were taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with minor injuries.

Their current conditions are not yet known.

Firefighters, police and ambulances rushed to the accident, which is believed to have involved a Peugeot and a Vauxhall.

Two children in the back of one of the cars were rescued but did not suffer any injuries.

The extent of the injuries of the others are not yet known.

Huddersfield fire watch commander, Andy Rose, attended with one of his crews and one from Rastrick.

“It was a serious collision.

“We had to cut out several people but managed to get the children out without doing this by going through the back.”

West Yorkshire Police have not yet released further details but will be issuing an appeal for witnesses later today.
