Despite national changes to the exam system, staff at Heckmondwike Grammar School have congratulated  students for their hard work and "outstanding GCSE results yet again this year".

The 162 students achieved a total of 1,955 passes at grade C or better, plus passes on 19 short courses and 31 of the higher-level additional maths qualifications. These   combine to give an average of over 12 passes per candidate.

A school spokesman said: "The quality of grades achieved was incredibly high; 88% of GCSE grades awarded were at grade B or better and 72% of these grades were either A or A*.

"There were some outstanding individual performances 127 students achieved five or more A or A* grades, (that’s 78%) and 92 of these achieved eight or more; 50 students achieved five  or more grades at A*.

"Eleven students achieved an amazing 10 or more grades at A*.These are: Oliver Atkinson, Oliver Beaumont, Jessica Buddle, Zoe Hallett, Charlotte Hoyle, Saira Mahmood, Robert Marsh, Abdullah Pakwashee, Thomas Pitchforth, Rebecca Shotton and Salma Valli.

"Among these, Oliver Beaumont, Robert, Charlotte and Saira achieved 12 A* grades each!

"The overall pass rate at grade C or above was again over 97%, which coupled with the quality of the grades represents an outstanding performance many respects.

"We are of course delighted that our students have done so well, with results which reflect the hard work and dedication of our students and staff. A great deal of time, energy and emotional reserves go into preparing for these important results. 

"It is fitting that ambitious, well-prepared students should be rewarded as they have been today."
